Still here....

Anyone who knows me as a runner would testify that I have a love/hate relationship with running. In fact we metaphorically broke up about a year ago and I haven’t spoke to it much since. I have had little spurts here and there we I would lace up and commit to a few days of running but for the most part I’d almost given up. I was now a non-runner. When you classify your self as a “runner” in the sense that I did, you can’t help but feel you’ve lost a major part of your identity, not to mention running friends.
Meanwhile I’ve been ignoring the smoldering fire, the passion for running. Each day it’s been growing, I’ve been waiting for it to return to a bonfire, but as quickly as it grows it’s doused by something, something unidentifiable but tangible all the same.
I think for me my biggest inspiration in running is the exploring, exploring a new trail, exploring my own limits of endurance, exploring the glorious feeling of being able to seemingly run forever. That’s the flame I’m fanning now. Encouraging myself to go explore what’s out there.

Feel free to throw some logs on the fire.

  1. Keep exploring some new trails and some races. Any chance of seeing you at Swissmurdie? or maybe the track on thursday nights. I raced at Wungong on the weekend, and it reminded me how much I also relish exploring the trails. I have a stack of obstacles making it hard to get out there, but road running club intervals has kept me ticking over this summer, plus a few visits to the hills group on a saturday morning. Busselton Half was good, and some time in the mountains down south was awesome. Hopefully you will be back to places like Mt Cooke, Mt Brown? Lesmurdie soon...This wednesday night BBC and their group are heading for Ellis Brook...I'd be keen to join them but I probably wont as I am finding I am way too busy in the evenings with work and family and I still havent got around to getting a decent headlamp...but maybe another week I will make it to the track or to the wednesday evening or sunday morning runs. Might try and make it to the track this thursday for a 3k race...also heading down to Lark Hill this saturday night to help out the 40 or so 50k racers, and a couple doing the 100k with Dave...nocturnal fun...I'm not racing as focused on shorter stuff for much of this year, and had some illness and injury concerns...Good to see the Blog getting re-energised, hopefully you fire up some time on the trails, and some racing soon. Hopefully thats a log on the fire or at least a stick... Many of us would really be happy to see you racing and exploring those trails again...
